In the UK alone over two million tonnes of electronic items are disposed of each year. Unsurprisingly, WEEE (waste electrical and electronic equipment) waste is one of the most common examples of waste that we come across. It also, unfortunately, does not decompose sustainably or naturally.
As a result, it is one of the worst materials to end up in a landfill and can result in an increase of harmful water and air contamination. This is because electrical appliances contain hazardous materials such as lead and mercury which can leak into groundwater and the surrounding areas. Consequently, our mission is simple; to ensure the highest rates of electronic recycling possible.
We are proud to be responsible electrical item recyclers. This means that we are wholly committed to diverting all electrical waste that enters our recycling facility away from landfill and incineration, which are both are destructive to the environment. Instead, at Valley Trading we see all electrical waste as a valuable, reusable and cost-effective materials.
When we collect any electrical waste, it is first subjected to a thorough sorting process. This allows us to completely separate all material groups for one another to prep them for recycling.
This is also referred to ‘dense media separation.’ Here the non-ferrous metals and other materials are separated using mineral processing techniques. These techniques can consist of floating and sinking minerals of liquids of different densities.
Once we have sorted out the plastics, metals and other materials as precisely as possible we then send all electrical waste to our partner recyclers where the materials are further processed and recycled. The plastic elements are often broken down into granules ready for remoulding and the metal elements are either sold to smelters or bought by reprocessors.
At Valley Trading, we are constantly reviewing our processes to ensure that they are evolving with the times to guarantee that our plastic recycling methods are as efficient and as sustainable as possible. Consequently, we are regularly investing in infrastructure and the very latest state-of-the-art machinery to achieve our goal of diverting all materials from landfill.
This dedication is visible via our state of the art fleet which includes a whole range of vehicles designed to ensure maximum recycling rates are achieved across our full range of services, ultimately benefiting the environment and providing significant cost savings for our clients.
