Although a banned building material since 1999, asbestos – a key carcinogenic – still remains prevalent. This is because as a building material it was used widely and consequently can be found in floors, walls, roofs and ceilings of any buildings built or even refurbished prior to 2000.
It is important that this unwanted asbestos is disposed of correctly and in line with all existing regulations and asbestos regulations.
Asbestos Disposal – the rules and regulations
The Government’s Control of Asbestos Regulations state that any waste material containing more than 0.1% of asbestos is officially classified as a hazardous material. This classification is because of the risk that asbestos materials pose to the environment and human health; asbestos fibres can be directly linked to lung cancer and other high-risk diseases.
Consequently, any materials that have been directly exposed to asbestos also fall into the asbestos category as they to pose a direct risk.
How to safely Dispose of Asbestos
Currently, the only way to safely dispose of asbestos is through specialist sites. These sites must have specific permits that authorise them to dispose of asbestos.
At Valley Trading we can take care of all your asbestos disposal needs for a small fee.
