How to Order a Skip ... Your Questions Answered

Which size of skip suits your needs best and do restrictions apply? Read the following to find out ...

What size skips are available?

Open Skip Standard chain lift open skip
2, 3, 5, 6, 8, 12 and 16 cubic yards
Enclosed Skip Enclosed/Lockable chain lift skip
8 and 12 cubic yards
Roll on roll off skip Roll-on-Roll off Skips
15, 20, 35 and 40 cubic yards

Does the kind of waste I have determine the kind of skip I can use?

2-5 cubic yard
This size is ideal for DIY and garden clearances. These smaller skips are delivered on smaller vehicles that can operate where access is restricted.

6-8 cubic yard
Mostly for building projects where there is heavier waste such as bricks, hardcore, timber, plasterboard, roof tiles and soil etc.

12-16 cubic yard
For larger amounts of mixed waste. For example : a mix of light and heavy waste such as timber, plastics, paper, cardboard, carpet plus small amounts of heavier waste such as bricks, blocks etc.

All the above skips are lowered on chains from the skip vehicle. These vehicles require less space to deliver and collect than the following roll-on-off skips.

20-40 cubic yard
These are suitable for large projects where there are high volumes of light to medium mixed wastes. These skips need more space to deliver than the ones above as they roll on and off larger vehicles.

20-40 Cubic Yard Roll On Roll Off

15 Cubic Yard Roll on Roll Off for Inert Waste (soil and stone or clean concrete)

Can the skip stay on the public highway?

Yes, in most cases. You will, however, need a permit issued by the local council. We arrange this for you but note that it will take 3-5 working days to arrange. Skips also require lights and road cones which are available from us when you order your skip.

If, for any reason, the local authority refuses to issue a permit, we can arrange a wait and load service.

Are there any types of waste that I cannot put in my skip?

We do not take hazardous waste. Common examples are listed below. For more information on hazardous waste, please visit the Environment Agency website.

Asbestos, Paint tins, Tyres, Contaminated Soil, TV's, Monitors, Oils, Solvents, Chemicals, Surgical, Fridges, Freezers
